I shared an Uber with another copywriter on my way to Copy Chief Live one morning.
He’s a successful freelancer.
He was telling me about these incredible campaigns he’s run for clients…
Creating webinars, funnels, even newspaper ads, that brought in tons (millions?) of dollars.
Obviously, he makes a good living.
And some people would kill for that.
He’s joining us at Agora Financial.
“I’m tired of fighting with clients. They don’t get direct response copywriting. I have to fight them on everything. ‘This is too crazy sounding. Nobody will read all that copy. This will never work.'”
He was justĀ tired.
In Mark Manson’s amazing book, The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck, he really goes into exploring the old phrase of: “life is pain.”
Essentially, we are never choosing what we want.
We think we are, but we’re not…
When we choose what we “want,” we are also choosing the struggles that accompany it.
You see, because life is pain, struggle and hurt is inevitable.
But we get to choose our suffering…
Want a big, happy family? You can have it, but you will suffer for it…
Each member will be need your attention, time, and resources…
Want a monogamous fulfilling relationship? You can have that!
But your partner will demand your constant devoted affection. They will lean on you when THEY struggle. And this will be a painful burden at times…
Especially when YOU are barely holding it together.
Dream of owning a fast Italian sports car?
You will not be able to just park it “anywhere.” It will require far more care and money to maintain than a Toyota Camry. And you will constantly worry about its condition and safety when you are away… Plus taxes.
So when you are choosing what life you want, Mark Manson says you really need to consider what struggle you want to endure.
Go in thinking about THAT first…
And when you think of it that way, you know what you’re getting into…
You shouldn’t ever be shaking your head grumbling, “I didn’t sign up for THIS.”
Well, yeah, you did. You signed up for the dream, and all the bullshit that comes with it too.
Consider applying that mindset shift in all your decisions today, and the rest of the week, and on.
Dedication is committing to a goal, and then really executing…
And letting nothing get in your way…
No excuses.
While I was at Copy Chief Live in Tampa, Florida…
I took a ton of notes and I hope to use some of them to bring you some value.
But there wasn’t a single idle moment to take my notes and form a good email for my list…
So, in the middle of our cocktail hour, while there is free beer and wine floating around, I wrote to my list…
In the middle of the lobby…
In front of everybody.
Why?
Because I said I would write every day.
I sat among millionaires, actively ignoring them, writing to my email list instead.
Because if I couldn’t stick to a daily email routine…
How am I supposed to ever be successful at anything?
